Book two carries on the principles established in Book One with Chester the Frog guiding the pupil through the book. Once again the pieces are stylistically varied and include folk themes, extracts from classics, modern arrangements of traditional Nursery Rhymes, blues and new pieces.

This book concentrates on the pupil making music, leaving theoretical explanations e.g. Scale formation, key, tonalities etc. until Book Three.

The child should be encouraged to compose his/her own music using the knowledge acquired so far and also by free explanation.

As a guide to the Teacher and Parent there is an area of information at the top of each page marked by Chester the Frog in a cap and gown. There is an insert of accompaniments provided for many of the pieces included in this book. Two versions are provided for each of the accompaniments, the first for the Teacher, the second simplified for Parent or Friend.

Chester's Piano Books are just part of a range of publications designed to make learning to play the piano fun.
