This book refers to the fundamental questions of musical development in children and adults as well. It is a meticulous textbook that analyzes with a critical, sociological and evaluative way the multidimensional nature of musical behavior. It moves between two basic guiding lines: it does one review of research data, of different theories and methodologies concerning the developmental study of music and it offers in parallel a theoretical frame forecasting the possible course of this unexplored research field.

The first chapters describe the main psychological approaches concerning the research of musical behavior and analyze the musical development of preschool and basic school children while performing activities such as singing, listening, rhythm and melody, as well as acquiring harmonic and tonal esthetics.
In the last chapters it is followed a sociological approach and useful questions are explored such as the development of the musical intuition, creativity, musical currents and the influence of advertisements.

It is the first book that connects the developmental psychology with musical education, adopting a theoretical but also a practical analysis.
It is addressed not only to students of musical departments, psychology and pedagogic but also to the music teacher wishing to get actualized in what concerns the processes that condition children¢s musical appreciation, thought and attainment.
