The purpose of The Guitar Book No.11, which is the second to last in this series, is to provide a thorough and painstaking classification of and quotation of excerpts from the pieces used by today's students of the guitar. This volume contains post-diploma level pieces and is aimed at final-year students preparing to sit for their Diploma examinations.

It would have been highly desirable to be able to include all the finest works of modern composers (Villa-Lobos, Rodrigo, Tedesco, Turina, Brouwer, Lauro, etc.), the rights of which have already been granted to other publishers. However, this gap has been filled most successfully through the participation of several very talented modern Greek composers, some of them well-established and others new to the scene, whose enthusiastic response in dedicating pieces especially for publication in these volumes means that "The Guitar Book" series contains more than 50 new Greek compositions. The result of their contribution (at no profit to themselves) has been, on the one hand, to enrich and augment the hitherto meagre Greek classical guitar repertoire, and on the other, to help final-year students to access and appreciate the spirit of modern musical composition.
